About Robert R Hammons
The 1855 distribution of Catharina Roberson's estate shows he was a son of her daughter Thursy. In 1850 and 1860 he was living in the household of (his uncle) Rufus Roberson. In 1850 he was listed as Robert R. Hammonds (9), born in Ohio. In 1860 he was listed as Robt. N. Hammers, (18), a laborer born in Ohio.
During the Civil War he served as Robert W. Hammons, a Private, age 18 (1862) in Company D and Company E1, 3rd Battalion Missouri Cavalry (Confederate). Rufus Roberson served in Company C. Sterling A. Hammonds served in Company H.
He was probably the Robert T. Hammond who married Elizabeth Taylor 30 Jul 1865 in Andrew County, Missouri.
He has not been located on the 1870 census in Missouri or elsewhere. Nor have the families of Rufus Roberson or William Horn been located in 1870. Either a portion of the Atchison County census is missing, or the families settled elsewhere, perhaps in Oklahoma, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, or Texas then later returned to Atchison County.
