disputed origins
From page 493 of Family Histories and Genealogies: A Series of Genealogical ..., Volume 1, Page 2 By Edward Elbridge Salisbury, Evelyn McCurdy Salisbury
"The family of Hoo had a Saxon origin, and was settled in Kent." Edrich de Ho was mentioned in a Saxon will in the time of Henry I., and several of the name were donors to the church of St. Andrew. They spread over many counties. At the end of the reign of King John, or at the commencement of that of Henry III., they were seated in Bedfordshire.
From A Supplement to the Suffolk Traveller, Or, Topographical and Genealogical ... By Augustine Page page 281 WISSET, or Wisseta
"The family of Hoo had some interest here soon after: William, second son of Sir William Hoo, and Alice his wife, daughter and heiress of Sir Thomas St. Omer [SIC: not their son], was seated in this parish. He married Rose, daughter of Sir John Glemham, Knt., and died about the reign of King Edward IV., [1461] leaving issue Wm. and Thos. Hoo."
"William Hoo of Wissett, [Wysett, Wycett] , Suffolk, 2nd son of William Hoo & Alice St. Omer.". Disproved.

Blomefield, in his Norfolk, vol. x, p. 40, makes William Hoo of Wisset, Norfolk, and Richard Hoo of Blyburgh, younger sons of Sir William and his wife Alice, and brothers by the whole blood of Lord Hoo. This also is incorrect; the Hoos of Seaming, Norfolk, were descended from Robert Hoo, who in 1418 (6 Henry V), purchased Maltlaster, Norfolk.3
