Lt.-Col. Robert James Lindsay-Loyd, 1st and last Baron Wantage of Lockinge
His name was legally changed to Robert James Lindsay-Loyd by Royal Licence.1 He was baptised with the name of Robert James Lindsay.1 He fought in the Crimean War.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Scots Fusilier Guards.2 He was decorated with the award of Victoria Cross (V.C.) on 24 February 1857, for his actions on 20 September and 5 November 1854.2 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) between 1865 and 1885.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Scots Fusiliers.2 He held the office of Finance Secretary, War Office between 1877 and 1880.1 He was created 1st Baron Wantage of Lockinge, co. Berkshire [U.K.] on 23 July 1885.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the service of the Home Counties Infantry Volunteer Brigade.1 He was Colonel of the Berkshire Royal Volunteers.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Berkshire.1 On his death, his title became extinct.
