Robert Kane (cocreator of “The Batman”)

Born Feburary 8, 1915 in The Fordham Section of The Bronx New York as Robert Khan, he showed an early talent as an Artist-Illustrator. His parents were, Herman and Agusta Kahn. His Father, worked as an engraver/photo-engraver at a New York Newspaper(s) as well as an independent in The Greater New York Printing Industry. Attending Dewitt Clinton High School, his early drawing talents landed him with additional training and eventually doing comic strip design in The Newspaper(s). After additional training... he served as an intern at "The Fleisher Studios" as an animation cell washer. Unhappy with his position, he quit. It was during that time that he later legally changed his name to "Robert Kane", to Anglo his name (Some say in simpathy toward Actress, Helen Kane and her lawsuit over the character, "Betty Boop" with The Fleisher Brothers). He continued to draw and Illustrate, along with the likes of other noted Comic book Artists and Illustrators. during this time in the mid-1930's of "The Great Depression", he met a part-time taxi driver-shoe salesman and writer named, William "Bill Finger" Fingerman. Both living in the same neighborhood of The Bronx, they met at "Poe Park" and in 1939, co-created a character named "Batman" for D.C. Comics, the rest is history. Kane continued to draw for D.C Comics till the mid-1960's and retired. Becaue of the popularity of "Batman", he later supervised as a T.V./Movie and spinoff Consultant for the making of "Batman" and other related projects. He would do this and attend various comic book conventions until his passing in Los Angeles on November 3, 1998.

דמויות נוספות בנוסף לדמותו של באטמן, ייצר קיין יחד עם ביל פינגר (ובמידה מסוימת, גם ג'רי רובינסון) את דמותו של הג'וקר, אשר עיצובה הושפע מדמות הנבל בסרט "האיש הצוחק" בגילומו של קונרד ויידט.

את דמותו של רובין, עוזרו הצעיר של באטמן, ייצר קיין יחד עם פינגר ורובינסון כדי שיהווה שותף-סוד לבאטמן, בדומה לד"ר ווטסון ושרלוק הולמס, בנוסף לרצון ליצור דמות עמה יוכלו הקוראים הצעירים להזדהות (בניגוד לבאטמן, שהיה אדם בוגר).

המשך הקריירה קיין, אשר זכה לתהילה בעקבות הצלחת דמותו של באטמן, פרש מחברת DC קומיקס בשנת 1966 ומאז התמקד בעיקר באמנות.

הוא זכה לפרסים רבים והוקרה על תרומתו לעולם הקומיקס וסרטים רבים, כמו גם סדרות טלוויזיה אשר התבססו על יצירתו נוצרו במשך השנים.

בוב קיין נפטר ב-3 בנובמבר 1998 ונקבר בלוס אנג'לס.
