Robert Oakland Kerns, 78, of Gore, VA died on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at his home.

Robert was born on March 18, 1938 in Bloomery, WV, a son of the late Harvey Oakland and Mary Thelma Rohe Kerns. He was a pump installer for C. Edward Shirley Well Drilling and Boyd DeHaven. Also worked for Rickards Orchard and Charles Zuckerman all of Winchester, VA.

Robert married Julia C. Dick Kerns in Winchester, VA on October 29, 1960.

Surviving with his wife of 55 years are four sons: Robert W. Kerns and his wife Barbara of Stephens City, VA; Randy E. Kerns and his wife Mary; Ronnie W. Kerns both of Winchester, VA; Rodney K. Kerns and his wife Kathy of Cross Junction, VA; two brothers: David Kerns of Romney, WV; Vernon Kerns of Bloomery, WV; a sister: Rosalie V. Abrell of Clarksburg, WV; two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a sister: Nancy Turner and a brother: Hauck E. Kerns.

A funeral service will be held at the Greenwood United Methodist Church in Unger, WV on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Lloyd McCanna. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
