About Robert Langley

Robert Langley (1929- ) was born in Mentone, Victoria. He became an artist after working with Arthur and Yvonne Boyd on a ceramic totem pole for the Olympic Swimming Pool in Melbourne in 1956. His sister, the artist Jean Langley (1926- ), had worked with Neil Douglas as a decorator for AMB Pottery in the 1940s and later developed a close friendship with the extended Boyd family, and with John and Sunday Reid and their Heide circle. Robert and Jean held a joint exhibition in Heide in 1958. His body of work includes pottery, ceramic and bronze sculptures, paintings, drawings, plays and poems. He retired at 65, but took up art again soon after, holding an exhibition of drawings and bronzes at Manyung Gallery, Mt Eliza, in 2002. His ceramic work may be incised 'Robert Langley'.
