Census 2: 06 Jul 1860, Age 53, GA Military Dist 34, Screven, GA, Farmer [According to the US Census of 1860, Robert T. Lawton (Age 53 at the time) was living with Harriet (52), Georgia L. (15), Cecelia (12) and Alexander J (10) in the 34th District of Screven, GA]
According to Georgia Marriage Records from 1808-1967, Robert T. Lawton married Ellen M. Livingston on June 27, 1864.
On Feb. 23, 1831, he married Harriet Charlotte Singleton, member of a prominent family of South Carolina and Screven County, Georgia. In December, 1852, he moved with his family from Lawtonville to the plantation later known as the Blockade Place in Screven County. The property may have been part of his wife's inheritance. For a time, he owned and operated plantations in both South Carolina and Georgia. During the 1850's followed the lead of his brother, he was engaged in railroad construction in Southwest Georgia.
Clyde Bresee's book, How Grand a Flame, said only four of their children reached adulthood, so the survivors were Anna, Rosa, Georgia and Cecilia.
