  • Robert's birth, biographical, and death information are available in his obituary in The New York Times, Friday, April 12, 1940, page 19.
  • Robert graduated from Yale University and immediately thereafter "enlisted in the Naval Volunteers and made six trips to Europe on the transport De Kalb. Later he transferred to the aviation service at Pensacola, Fla., and after completing the course became an instructor in stunt flying. He resigned in 1919 to go to Japan for the Texas Oil Company. After several years in the Orient he joined the Curtiss-Wright Company and spent several years with them establishing airports. He was an airmail pilot at several periods during his career and in 1933 made the first non-stop flight to Haiti with Captain Errol Boyd."
