Death
According to Darryl Lundy's Peerage, Robert Maxwell of Calderwood died in 1568. This is wrong, however Darryl Lundy's Peerage It is possible that he died before 11 February 1536-37, when his son and heir, also Robert Maxwell of Calderwood,was instructed to marry Elizabeth Barclay The Protocol Book of Michael Fleming, protocol number 1287 on pp. 106-07 but he certainly died before 1 June 1537, when the late Robert Maxwell of Calderwood, and his wife Isobelle Elphinestoun, are referred to in a charter issued by James V, King of Scots.Great Seal Register, 1513-46, charter number 1667

9 May 1559: Extract Decree in the action persued by the King and Queen, against John Maxwell of Calderwood, and John, Archbishop of St Andrews, for entering production of the pretended charter of infeftment of Feu Ferme, made by King James V to the late Robert Maxwell of Calderwood, Elizabeth Elphinstone, his spouse, as the price of the 5 mark lands of Chapelton, the 5 mark land of Bollinschaw, and others, and certain other writs to have them reduced.
