Robert E. McMillan, 74, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at his home.

Mr. McMillan began his employment with Union Carbide Nuclear Division on Aug. 5, 1944. He was a chemical operator at the K-25 Site of Martin Marietta Energy Systems at the time of his retirement on May 5, 1985.

He was born in Athens on Jan. 19, 1923, the son of Martin McMillan and Julie Ann Rose McMillan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. McMillan was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Blanche Coffey McMillan, by whom he is survived, and friends Della Raper and the late Bud Raper.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ralph L. McMillan and his wife, Betty, of Oliver Springs, and William E. McMillan and his wife, Shirley, of Clinton; two sisters, Rossie Newman of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Lula Bell Henderson of Athens; two brothers, Joe McMillan and his wife, Modena, and John McMillan, all of Athens; three grandchildren, Michelle Boles and her husband, Michael, Michael McMillan and his wife, Pamela, and Amy McMillan; and by one great-grandchild, Zachary McMillan.

The funeral was held Sunday, Nov. 16, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Dick Baker and the Rev. David McPherson officiating.

A graveside service was to be held at 11 this morning, Nov. 17, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
