Robert McMinn (II) was born into a community of Quakers in the area of Chester Co, PA. He married his wife Sarah Harlan on July 26, 1748 in West Marlborough Twshp, Chester, PA. Sarah was the granddaughter of a member of the Quaker community, William Harlan, who is buried at the Old Burying Grounds of the Kennett Meeting House. Robert and Sarah married on Jul 26, 1748 in West Marlborough, Chester, PA.

He and Sarah had 11 children, 2 of whom died in infancy. All were born in Chester. One son was Joseph McMinn, who served in the Revolutionary War in Tennessee, and later, served as Governor of Tennessee.

In 1774, when Robert (Jr.,III) was still young, Robert (Sr.,II) moved his family to Frederick, Maryland. My line comes from Robert and Sarah's son Robert, who also served in the Revolutionary War as a private in the Maryland line, for which he received a pension beginning in 1833 when he was a resident of Hawkins County, Tennessee.

Robert McMinn drew his will in June, 1795, it was probated 1795 in Allegheny Co., MD. John Wolfe, husband of Robert's daughter Sarah, was named administrator. Robert bequeathed to his "dearly beloved wife" Sarah all his estate, real and personal, "except my tools, which I give to my two sons, George and John, during her life and after her decease all to be sold and divided amongst my four daughters--Elizabeth, Martha, Mary and Sarah."

The tree of descent has been difficult to research because of the preponderance of Sarah McMinn's in 3 generations, and 3 generations of Robert McMinn's. I think it's straight now!.

The following research is done by Donald Sherry:

Here is my (NOT NECESSARILY COMPLETE) timeline for Robert McMinn: Occupation Cooper (If you have info to add, I would welcome same) (I imagine you will have questions, and if you want to talk about any of this, we can arrange a telephone conversation.)
