About Robert Andrew Melgard

Robert Andrew “Bob” Melgard September 26, 1934 - June 5, 2005 Robert Andrew “Bob” Melgard, 70, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2005 in Spokane, WA. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Jesuit House, 1106 N. Astor, Spokane, with Fr. Ken Krall officiating. The family requests those attending wear bright colors in honor of Bob.

Bob was born on September 26, 1934 in Moscow, Idaho to Walter and Florence Melgard. He grew up and attended schools in Moscow graduating from Moscow High School. He attended the University of Idaho and became a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He graduated from the University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

While attending the U of I, Bob met Catherine Curtis in a photography class. They were married on July 12, 1958 in Sandpoint, Idaho. They lived in Moscow where Bob opened a women’s clothing store called Roban’s; named after his two sons Andrew and Robert. In 1974 Bob moved his family to Spokane, Washington where they have lived for past 30 years.

Bob had a passion for life, family and people. He believed all aspects of life should focus around his family. He adored his wife Catherine of 47 years and believed he was the luckiest man alive to share his life with her. He was actively involved in his three children and grandchildren’s lives and never missed an opportunity to entertain, take trips with his family and go to the cabin in Sandpoint. Bob had a gift for understanding people. He liked nothing more than to meet new people and learn their story. He always was on the phone or writing letters to family, friends and new people he had met to tell them how much they had touched his life. Bob will always be remembered for his talent in photography. There was rarely a time when he didn’t have a camera in his hands taking pictures of people and events. He enjoyed giving his photographs to those he had captured on film.

Bob is survived by his family, wife Catherine Melgard of Spokane, children and grandchildren: Andy and Tyler Melgard of Spokane, Bob, Emily and Grace Melgard of Boise, Idaho and Kirsten, David and Jack Parker of Boise, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence, and sister Rose Melgard of Moscow, Idaho.
