In a disposition and settlement dated 6 September 1803, Alexander Peter, merchant burgess of Glasgow in Scotland, made provision for: "Miss Peter, only child of Robert Peter, merchant, James River, Virginia, my nephew, son of the said John Peter, or the heirs of her body, one hundred and fifty pounds Sterling, but in case of her decease without issue at the term of payment.....the said one hundred and fifty pounds..... shall be paid to John Peter in Maryland, my nephew, a son of my brother John" [National Archives of Scotland, Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Sheriff Court Inventories, 1804-1925, A Disposition and Settlement made by Alexander Peter, merchant burgess of Glasgow, reference SC36/48/1, pages 397-406].
