Many think, however, that there was another son, Robert, perhaps the oldest. In 1649 there was a Robert Rand living in Lynn, but ten miles from Charlestown, and those who had made the matter a study thought that probably he took his allotted portion upon coming of age, soon after his father's death, and settled in Lynn. This was laid before Mr. Wyman and, as he was particularly interested in the subject, he made a special research in regard to it, with the result that he wrote to a member of the family that he had come to the conclusion that Robert of Lynn was doubtless the son of Robert of Charlestown, and that he would make the correction in his revision of the "Genealogies and Estates," but death overtook him before he had accomplished it. One fact upon which he based his opinion was a deed dated 1709, in which the name of a grandson of Robert of Lynn occurs in connection with descendants of Robert of Charlestown.
Robert Keayne, a merchant of Boston, who died in 1656, left a legacy in his will to Robert Rand of Lynn. He came to America in 1635, and it is suggested that possibly they came in the same ship.
