One of the most prominent traits of his character was hostility, bitter and undying, to the British government. It was this feeling that impelled him, as it has many thousand other natives of that ill-fated, oppressed country, to turn his back upon Ireland, and seek a home for himself and his children in "The land of the free and the home of the brave." - John Reynolds
