Hester, b. about 1654, evidently the child of a third wife, who was Dorothy, widow of Robert Rose of Easthampton. She m. Capt. Samuel Mulford, eldest son of Justice John Mulford.
Page 142: Robert Rose reached Easthampton by 1648. He was living on 13 May 1651, but by 10 June 1652 his wife Dorothy was a widow.

By Peter Ross, William Smith Pelletreau on Easthampton: The first settlers of the town the men for whom Governors Eaton and Hopkins purchased the territory were John Hand Thomas Tal mage Daniel Howe Thomas Thompson John Stratton Robert Bond Robert Rose Joshua Barnes and John Mulford....Robert Rose lived in Southampton in 1644 He married Dorothy who was probably a daughter of Ananias Conkling [SIC] They had children Thomas John Samuel Mary and Jonathan Thomas Rose the eldest son went to Southampton and sold his father's estate in East Hampton to George Miller December 19 1665 Jonathan went to Brookhaven.

"He [the Earl of Stirling] turned first to a disgruntled group in Lynn, Massachusetts, who felt sufficiently “straitened” in their circumstances to look for resettlement, and brought them to the site of the later Manhasset, a mere twenty miles from New Amsterdam. Expelled from there by a troop of Dutch soldiers, they moved off one hundred miles to the far eastern tip of the island, Montauk Point, and then, disappointed with that bleak spot, settled finally at a place they called Southampton,on the southern, ocean side of the island, still far from any Dutch settlements. "
