Robert Lavern Schumacher

Robert Lavern Schumacher, 82, Munjor, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, in Overland Park.

He married Bernadine “Bernie” Dreiling on Feb. 24, 1962, at St. Fidelis Church in Victoria. She preceded him in death Dec. 18, 2010.

He was born May 28, 1934, in Victoria to Celestine and Helen (Jacobs) Schumacher.

He graduated from Hays High School. He was a postal employee, retiring from the Hays post office. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Third Degree Munjor council Knights of Columbus and Volga German Society. They were both parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor and St. Boniface Catholic Church in Vincent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, bird watching and was a fan of professional bull riding.

Survivors include two sons, Brian Schumacher and wife, Tracy, Overland Park, and Barry Schumacher and wife, Inna, Katy, Texas; a daughter, Brenda Hellman and husband, Tim, Wichita; two brothers, Verlin and Leon Schumacher, both of Hays; two sisters, Patricia “Toots” Engel, Garland, Texas, & Carol Freitag, Victoria; five grandchildren, Heather Roy, Chris Hellman, Brandon Schumacher, Brent Schumacher and Polina Schumacher; and a great-grandchild, Annelise Roy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brett Schumacher; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Roy; a brother, Celly Schumacher.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria; burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Munjor. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, both at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671. A Munjor council Third Degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., both at the mortuary.
