Robert Gould Shaw II (sometimes referred to as RGS II) (June 16, 1872 — March 29, 1930) was a wealthy landowner and socialite of the leisure class in the greater Boston area of Massachusetts. He was one of the prominent figures of the boom years at the turn of the century, sometimes called the Gilded Age.
Born in 1872 into one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Boston, he was a first cousin of Robert Gould Shaw (RGS, 1837—1863). His first wife was Nancy Witcher Langhorne, and they had a son, Robert Gould Shaw III (RGS III, also known as Bobby). RGS II and Langhorne divorced after four years of marriage. She moved to England after some time, where she met and married Waldorf Astor, who later succeeded his father as Viscount.

Robert Gould Shaw, 2nd was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on June 16, 1872 to Quincy Adams Shaw and Pauline Agassiz Shaw. His father was the financier and President of Calumet and Hecla Copper Mines. His parents were philanthropists of the arts and social welfare of Boston. Pauline Agassiz was the daughter of Swiss born noted Natural Scientist Louis Agassiz and Cecile Agassiz. Robert Gould Shaw, 2nd was a first cousin to the famous Col Robert Gould Shaw who lead the all black regiment at Fort Wagner. Robert Gould Shaw, 2nd graduated from Harvard University and then managed the family business at Calumet and Hecla Mines. Later he purchased Boulder Farms in Newton, Ma where he raised a variety of animals including polo ponies. He was an international polo player who competed for the Myopia Hunt Club. He had one son with his first wife Nancy Langhorne, Robert Gould Shaw, but this marriage ended in divorce. Nancy became Lady Astor of England where she lived with her new husband and son Robert Gould Shaw. Robert Gould Shaw, 2nd married a second time to Mary Hannington. They had four sons together: Robert Gould Shaw, George Alexander Shaw, Louis Agassiz Shaw and Paul Agassiz Shaw.
