Robert Stuart, 7th Lord Blantyre was the son of Alexander Stewart, 5th Lord Blantyre and Anne Hamilton He married, firstly, Lady Helen Lyon, daughter of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope, in 1714. He married, secondly, Margaret Hay, daughter of Hon. William Hay and Hon. Elizabeth Seton, after 1714.

He died on 17 November 1743 at Lennoxlove, East Lothian, Scotland.

He was buried at Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

    He gained the rank of Captain in 1713 in the service of the Regiment of Foot.1 He was Fort Major of the Fort St. Philip, Minorca in 1713.1 He succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Blantyre [S., 1606] on 23 June 1723.1
