Robert Nelson Timmins, a New York investment banker, died yesterday at his home in Manhattan. He was 60 years old.
Mr. Timmins died of throat cancer, a spokesman for the family said.
A private investor at his death, Mr. Timmins was vice president of corporate finance at Wood Gundy of Toronto from 1982 to 1984. In 1972 and 1973 he was chairman and chief executive officer of the brokerage firm J. R. Timmins & Company, which was founded by his father, Jules R. Timmins of Montreal, and which merged in 1971 with Burns Brothers and Denton of Toronto.
He was president and chairman of the successor firm of Burns Brothers and Timmins from 1973 to 1976, handling the New York operation. When the firm merged again, becoming Burns Fry and Timmins, he served in executive capacities and until 1981 was a director of its parent firm, Burns Fry Ltd.
