Robert Vernon, 1st Baron Lyveden, GCB, PC (23 February 1800 – 10 November 1873), known as Robert Vernon Smith until 1859, was a British Liberal Party politician.

Robert Vernon Smith, 1st Baron Lyvedon of Lyvedon was born on 23 February 1800 the son of Robert Percy Smith and Caroline Maria Vernon.

He married Emma Mary Wilson (Emma Mary Fitzpatrick), daughter of John FitzPatrick, 2nd Earl of Upper Ossory on 15 July 1823.

• He was 1st Baron Lyveden of Lyveden.
• He was County Northampton (UK).
• He was educated Eton and Ch Ch Oxford.
• He was also known as Robert Smith.
• He gained the title of 1st Baron Lyvedon of Lyvedon. He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) Tralee , Northampton 1831–59 in 1829.
• He was Met Commissioner of Lunacy , Commissioner of Lunacy 1845–60, a Lord Treasury 1830–34, Sec *Board Control 1835–39, Parly U-Sec Colonies 1839–41, Sec at War Feb–March 1852, Pres Board Control 1855–58 in 1830.
• On 28 June 1859 so created.4 On 14 July 1859 roy licence.
• He was Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1872

He died on 10 November 1873 at age 73
