Also in "Grandmother's Story," by Bessie Lyon, from The Palimpsest (January 1924, Vol V, No. 1), published by the State Historical Society of Iowa, and in "Jotham Lyon" from Lee's1912 History of Hamilton County. REFN: 2 JAN 2014 22:53:36 The Willis' came to Hamilton Co. in 1856 (see "Grandmother's Story") and entered a homestead on a land warrant presented to Robert's father by the government. His father was a veteran of the War of 1812, and accidentally lost his eye to a fellow soldier's bayonet. The land warrant was given as a result of this injury.
