About Robert Wolsey
Robert Wulcy (or Wolsey), was a man of substance, owning property in Ipswich, but it is not known that he was a butcher as commonly reported. He also is reported to be a innkeeper, at Yoxford, Dunwick, Blythborough, Stowmarket, Ipswick and elsewhere.
"...the Privy Seal, Feb. 21, 1510, granted to Edmund Daundy, of Ipswich, empowering him to found a chantry in the southern nave of St. Lawrence, of Ipswich, to pray for the good estate of the King and the Queen, and among others for the souls of Robert Wolsey and Joan his wife, father and mother of Thomas Wolsey, Dean of Lincoln."
Secondary sources state that Cardinal Wolsey's mother, Joan, was the sister of Edmund Daundy.
