ROBERT de CLAYTON was born in Caudebec, Normandy in about 1030. He came to England with William the Conqueror and fought at the Battle of Hastings. For his services, he was awarded the Manor of Clayton in Lancashire. He was then known as Robert de Clayton. He had three sons: John, William and Robert.
