About Roger IV Deincourt

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Deincourt-57

Roger Deyncourt (Roger IV) was the son of Roger Deyncourt (Roger III) and probably Annora Deyncourt.[1] Based on a grant to his younger brother Robert in 1230 (when Robert must have been at least 21),[1] Roger was probably born sometime before 1208. Based on his death sometime in 1263-1278, Roger was probably born after 1190. Therefore, an estimated date of birth about 1200 is reasonable.

Roger married Alice, daughter of Adam de Harthill,[1] sometime in 1235-1242. The fact of the marriage and the date of the marriage are established by a grant by Adam de Hertehill (who died in 1242) to Roger son and heir of Roger de Ayncurt (who died in 1235) of land in Danethorp in connection with Roger's marriage to Adam's daughter Alice.[2][3] Foulds suggests that the marriage may have been Alice's second,[1] and, based on the fact that Roger was probably at least 27 at the time of the marriage, it was probably Roger's second marriage as well.

Roger and Alice had the following children (and perhaps others):

  1. John, b. sometime in 1242-1262, d. before shortly before June 18, 1322
  2. Roger, parson of Ashover, living in 1337(!?)[1] Based on a grant by his widow involving her brother Richard de Harthill (who died in 1272), Roger died sometime before 1272. Foulds suggests that the circumstances of the grant suggest that the actual date of the grant was about 1263, which would mean that Roger probably died sometime before that date.[4]

The Herthill family had a major early involvement in the place but Adam de Herthill gave Roger Deyncourt and Alice his wife all his land and interests in Danethorpe sometime around the middle of the 13th century. In c1263, Alice, wife of the recently deceased Roger Deyncourt, along with Roger de Brettevile and Amabilia his wife, gave their interests to Thurgarton Priory, which was subsequently confirmed by a charter of Richard de Herthill.
