Roger located 1060 acres of land in Bristol Parish, Charles City County, Virginia, April 20, 1689. The place was know as Fort Tillman and was situated on the south side of the Appomattox River at Monk's Neck. After settling in Virginia Roger changed the spelling of the name from Tilghman to Tillman. His children did not all change the spelling of the name.
