"…Rogerio Cortacensi…" signed the charter dated 1150 which records an agreement between Thierry Count of Flanders and "Milo…Morinensis episcopus" regarding the jurisdiction of the church[146]. Châtelain de Courtrai. Châtelain de Gand. "…Rogerus castellanus Gandensis" signed the charter dated 1151 under which Thierry Count of Flanders granted the church of Saint-Martin, Hesdin to "Milonem…Morinorum episcopum"[147]. “...Rogeri castellani de Corturiaco, filiorum eius Gautherii, Sycheri...” witnessed the charter dated 1163 under which Philippe Count of Flanders approved the exchange between Tournai Saint-Martin and “Johannes de Velven et Walterius Tirans...”[148]. Philippe Count of Flanders confirmed the donation of property "in parrochia de Severne" to the church of Saint-Martin, Popinglo made by "Rogerus castellanus et uxor eius Margareta" by charter dated 6 May 1187, signed by "Rogeri, Arnoldi, Giselberti filiorum ipsius Rogeri castellani, Joannis Insularis castellani…Sigeri de Gant…"[149].

A Cronice Flandrensium, dated to the end-12th century, names “Rogerus castellanus Insulensis...cui frater erat Robertus...clericus et archdiaconus Tornacensis et præpositus Insulensis tercius” who “plures habuerunt sorores” of whom “primam duxit uxorem castellanus Curtracensis Saram nomine” by whom he had “liberos Rogerum castellanum...et Desiderium, quartum Insulensem præpositum, qui vixit prope XXIX annis, postea promotus est in episcopatum Morinensem, cui successit tercius frater eius Robertus...quintus præpositus Insulensis, qui vixit prope quindecim annos”[150]. Duchesne says that she was “Sarre de Lille fille de Roger le Jeune chastellain de Lille”[151]. He cites no primary source on which he bases this information, which is contradicted by the source quoted above. The necrology of Lille Saint-Pierre records the death “IV Non Oct” of “Sarræ castellanæ”[152].

Philippe Count of Flanders confirmed the donation of property "in parrochia de Severne" to the church of Saint-Martin, Popinglo made by "Rogerus castellanus et uxor eius Margareta" by charter dated 6 May 1187, signed by "Rogeri, Arnoldi, Giselberti filiorum ipsius Rogeri castellani, Joannis Insularis castellani…Sigeri de Gant…"[155]. "Margareta quondam castellana Curtracensis" donated revenue to Gant Saint-Pierre by undated charter[156]. A charter dated to [1201/09] records the donation by "nobilis matrona Margareta…castellana Curtracensis" to Gant Saint-Pierre for the anniversary of "domini Eustachii primi mariti eiusdem matrone"[157]. "Margareta castellana Curtracensis" donated "decimam…apud Artevelde" to the abbey of Gent St Bavo by charter dated 1215[158]. Roger [I] & his first wife had eight children:

1151-1187 Roger I first Kortrijk. The count of Flanders Thierry d'Alsace, noting that Arnould of Ghent, eldest son and main heir of Wenemar, abandons the chatellenie of Ghent and tries to usurp the county of Guînesto the detriment of the direct heiress, confiscates the castle of Ghent to entrust it to the castle of Courtrai for a time. Arnould, who remained the legal master of the châtellenie, negotiates with Roger and leaves him the châtellenie throughout his life, on the condition that he marry his daughter Marguerite de Guînes, then widowed by a first marriage. Roger was also a widower, having first married Sarre de Lille, daughter of Roger the Younger, lord of Lille. Roger then married Marguerite. By marriage, Roger holds the châtellenie as long as Marguerite lived. Roger calls himself the lord of Kortrijk and Ghent since 1151 and in various charters between 1153 and 1171 sometimes says the one and sometimes the other. Roger and Marguerite donated to the?). Roger enjoyed the castle of Ghent for about 40 years. He died in 1187 or 1190 [ 17 ] . Roger and Marguerite did not have children. Marguerite lived a long time yet ː in 1215, she donated 40 silver marks to the Saint Bavo Hospital in Ghent. It takes over from the abbot of Saint Bavo Abbey in Ghent , named Euerde, the house and land of Lathem in charge of having it rebuilt. Arnould II de Guînes , his nephew, declared in 1218 that after Marguerite's death, none of his parents could claim it. She still founded the abbey of Wevelgemnear Kortrijk where it transports the nuns previously established in Morselle. She received her burial in the choir of the church in 1222, according to the epitaph engraved on her tomb. Roger had had several children by his first wife ː Gautier Kortrijk Kortrijk Squire, who will marry a daughter of William the Younger, lord of Saint-Omer, lord Gautier niece and Mahaut de Saint-Omer, wife of Arnould I st of Guines. Roger of Kortrijk, known as the Younger, inherited by the death of his brother the chatellenie of Kortrijk. Before 1198 he married Béatrix Dame de Nivelle Arnould Gislebert Siger, are named all three in charters of the years 1156, 1180, 1187. Didier de Courtrai, provost of the Saint-Pierre collegiate church in Lille then bishop of Thérouanne Robert, provost of Saint-Pierre de Lille after his brother. Peronnelle de Courtrai who married Siger de Guînes, dit de Gand, son of Arnould and who took over from the lords of Ghent [ 18 ] .
