Roland W. Daigle, 84, formerly of Waterford, N.Y., and recently of Dayton, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at his son's residence in Fort Ann, N.Y., after a long illness. Born in Fort Kent, Maine on March 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Denis and Jeanne Daigle. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Paul G. Daigle, and many of his brothers and sisters. He served in the United States Army and was a decorated veteran, receiving numerous citations including a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for acts of bravery during World War II. For many years, Roland and his brother Jean Daigle owned and operated J & R Builders. They successfully retired knowing that they left a strong business still existing today. He was an avid traveler, visiting many places around the globe, many of them on his favorite mode of transportation, a motorcycle. He was always proud of his family's achievements, and visiting with grandchildren and great-grandchildren one of his greatest pleasures. He is survived by his former wife, Germaine Palmer and her husband Charles of Zephyrhills Fla.; his three children, Lucienne Daigle of Dayton, Texas, Denis R. Daigle and his wife Lisa of Fort Ann N.Y., and Gail M. Castiglia and her husband Frank (Casey) of Warrensburg, N.Y.; his five grandchildren, Carl, Wayne, Alandra, DJ, Daniel and their significant others, Heather, Ashlee and Mike, respectively. The family would like to convey their deepest appreciation and special thanks to Hospice of Washington County and Interim Healthcare of the Capital Region located in Queensbury, N.Y. who were there to help make his final journey a happy one. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Singleton Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. A graveside service will be performed at St. Mary's Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 with Pastor Loren Gage officiating. Donations in Roland's memory are suggested to Washington County Hospice.
