2012-05 (Paul): Une réflexion - Est-ce que son "autre" petit nom de "David" fut donné pour honorer le grand père maternel David Ryan, de sa mère ? On ne trouve pas ce nom du côté de la lignée Doré/Berthiaume ?

• ******************************************************************************************************** Élevé en Ontario jusqu'à l'âge de 14 ans, il a l'opportunité de vivre avec son oncle Joe et tante Millie à Wells BC. pendant environ 4 ans. Cet endroit fût un paradis pour les jeunes et il en profite grandement d'abord du milieu mais surtout de l'encadrement de cette merveilleuse famille.

Raised in Ontario, he moved to B.C. to live with his aunt Millie (Emilie) and uncle Joe in a small mining town called Wells, known best for its proximity to Barkerville, home of one of the craziest Gold rush in Canadian history. It was a fantastic place to live for young people and and he was terribly happy to live with such a loving family. He was often a hunting companion for his uncle and got to play sports such as baseball and badmington at a surprisingly high level.

Il revient à Toronto en début 1956 et ayant appris le métier d'arpentage dans les mines d'or, se trouve un emploi avec la Voirie d'Ontario et pendant des 4 années suivantes voyage à travers l'Ontario, jusqu'à Dryden.

Back to Toronto in 1956, he joined the Ontario Highway ministery as a land surveyor, having learned the rudiments of the the trade in the gold mines. For nearly four years he worked all over the province, the winter working even in Dryden in the northwest corner of Ontario, a town not far from Winnipeg Manitoba.

Après son mariage, il s'établit en maison mobile à Sudbury. La famille voit naître 2 enfants.

Fortunately, he had a meeting with a young Québecoise working in the tobacco fields of southern Ontario in 1958. Aliette Robitaille was staying that summer with his Aunt Helen and uncle Mike, to learn English. Later we were to learn that this "chance meeting" was most likely the work of Aunt Helen.

They were married between Christmas and New Year's of 1959 in Alma Lake St-Jean.

No sooner married and they were off to Sudbury, in a house trailer, a habit that was to last all too long. There Rolly continued to play badmington, sometimes at the provincial level, that despite having lost a lot of bone and flesh of his right arm and in fact nearly his life, in an adolescent hunting accident, while living in B.C.

He and Aliette also had two children there, first Vicky and then Roland junior. The first birth was extremely difficult, Aliette luckily was "allowed" a caesarian after 36 hours. Years later we learned that her mother had died in child birth when Aliette was born. Incredible what love can make people endure.

Cependant certaines difficultés l'incitent à de se relocaliser et finalement il élit de déménager au Québec où il restera le reste de sa vie devenant bilinque, si pas parfaitement, d'une compétence fort charmante .

Suddenly, economic difficulties hit, and the family was forced to relocate and with the help of both families, settlied in Alma. From that time forward, Rolly left the financial affairs in the very competant hands of Aliette. It wasn't long before he became bilingual, although retaining througout his life a very charming accent, an accomplishment that his coworkers and friends very much admired.

Il travaille d'abord pour Hydro-Québec mais rapidement il se joigne à la Voirie provinciale et travaille à Baie Comeau, Mattagami et Val d'or. Lorsque la Voirie lui demande de retourner à Baie Comeau, il décide qu'il en a assez voyagé et accepte de nouveau un emploi dans les mines SIGMA, toujours en arpentage et il y restera jusqu'à sa retraite.

He first started out with Hydro-Québec but quickly found himself again surveying for the Quebec provincial highway ministery. Again he worked all over the place especially where ever new roads were required to the hugh hydro facilities of Baie Comeau on the North shore and in the James Bay area, still living in a house trailer most of the time.

But all "good" things having to come to an end, he finally settled down in Val d'or where for the rest of his life, he worked for Sigma Gold mines, paradoxaly not more then 5 minutes from work.

Sportif et père de famille actif, il a lui-même excellé au Badmington à Wells BC, à Sudbury, Ontario et à Val d'or ayant atteint des niveaux impressionnants en tounois provinciaux. Et ce malgré la moitié des muscles et de l'os de l'avant-bras droit perdus dans un voyage de chasse à l'âge de 17 ans en B.C.

Après avoir même joué au football américain comme guard intérieur pendant un couple d'années pour la ville de Val d'or, il se calme, et se consacre à encourager ses enfants dans les sports dans lesquels, les deux en connaissent beaucoup de succès autant au hockey qu'en athlétisme, ... si on fait abstraction d'environ 15 ans d'arbitrage additionnels jusqu'au niveau junior AAA qu'il se permet tout de même.

Always a sports addict, he even played american football in a northern provincial ligue in spite of the still fragile right arm. But he also was very much involvd in minor hockey as a referee at all levels up to Junior AAA for over 15 years. Apparently coke bottle on the head convinced him that his career was over. That in addition to following his children in hockey, and athletism.

Rolly avait une personalité forte qui au début de sa vie lui a bien servi pour se débouiller pendant des périodes difficiles mais aussi lui ont occasionné des moments forts voir parfois cocasses cependant avec le temps le côté sympathique de sa personalité lui a gagné beaucoup de respect et d'amis. Se promener avec lui pendant 20 minutes à Val d'or suffisait pour constater combien était grand son réseau d'amis.Il ne se passait pas 5 minutes qu'il ne s'arrêtait pour piquer un brin de conversation avec quelqu'un. Et ce réseau d'amis s'étendait avec le temps, à travers la province, grâce à des nombreux tournois et rencontres sportives. et professionnelles auxquels il participait.

Never one to back done, he shared a trait very common amongst the Dore's, a strong personality, which equiped with the fistiness to get through the tough times of his life, although sometimes it cost him some nasty bruises and bloodied noses. As a youngster and well into his twenties, no one ever "cut in line" or "cut him off" without Rolly trying to right the injustice.

However, the same strong personality was and became more and more a gage of respect and friendship, upon which he was able to build an important network of friends in througout the province, thanks to his love of sports and people.

Il y a des gens qui exceptionnellement apportent du soleil et optimisme partout où il passe. Rolly en était un. Sa vie a été certes trop courte, surtout pour sa famille et ses amis, mais ce fût une vie extrêmement riche en des choses qui comptent, tel le travail, la famille, l'amitié, la genéroisité et l'amour. Il s'est occupé de beaucoup de projets communautaires mais surtout de sa famille, que ce soit au début avec son petit frère, sa famille toujours, et enfin vers la fin, de son père.

Some people are able to light up a room as soon as they entere. Rolly was one of these. He could in fact light up a street in Val d'or, just by greeting literately dozens of people as he went about the town, and was certainly one of the most liked of the "têtes carrées" within the very large Robitaille family .

He was always there for his family and friends at all times and under all circumstances, from looking out for his littler brother in the beginning, or for his father in his later years.

Strangely, as strong a personality as he had, his generousity and sense of justice, was diametrically the opposite, totally discrete and self effacing.
