Deceased Name: Obituary: Roland A. Jensen Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Roland Aaron Jen-sen, age 82, passed away January 10, 2001 in Taylorsville, UT of causes incident to age.

He was born Dec-ember 1, 1918 in Mantua, Utah to Aaron Leroy and Emilie Bentine Nielsen Jensen. Married Nelda Maurine Spendlove May 6, 1939; marriage solemnized two years later in the Salt Lake Temple.

He was a faithful mem-ber of the LDS Church holding numerous callings including High Priest group leader and Branch President of the Golden Living Center. Roland graduated from BYU on a four year, full ride athletic scholarship. He played football all four years as a tight end. He coached high school sports at Malad High School. Served as an Ensign in the Navy during World War II and was disabled while serving as a Physical Education Trainer.

He served in Washington, D.C. as National Assistant Adjutant for the Disabled American Veterans and was instrumental in adding the words "Under God" into the Pledge of Allegiance. He worked as National Sales Manager of Bardahl Oil for 17 years living in many different states. He returned to Utah and worked for the Salt Lake City Water Department as a manager for ten years.

After his retirement he worked for Key Bank as a courier and received the honor of Employee of the Year. He was a wonderful father to his five daughters who all adored him. He loved to sing and recite poems that he remembered from elementary school. Rest well Daddy, 'till we meet again.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda of 61 years; five daughters, Deanna (Brownie) Parker, Newport Beach, CA; Bonnie Jean (Dennis) Dalebout, Costa Mesa, CA; Sharry (Jim) Freudenberg, Longmont, CO; Susan (Mike) Schilling, Arvada, CO; Judith (Rick) Barlow, Bountiful, UT; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Milton, Harvard, Gerald; sisters, Maurine and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura; brother, Elbert; great-grand-daughter, Elizabeth.

The family would like to thank the Community Nursing Services and the Hospice volunteers, Dorothy and Ivana, who so lovingly helped us with Dad.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 12 noon at the Taylorsville 10th Ward, 1950 West 4950 South. Friends may call Friday, January 12, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Saturday at the church, 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Dedication and military honors will follow services at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South.
