A funeral will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel for Ronald Wallace Bernhardt Sr., who died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Vancouver. He was 77.
Mr. Bernhardt was born Jan. 15, 1927, in Vancouver and lived in Clark County his entire life. He worked as a longshoreman for 30 years and also owned and operated Ron's Ornamental Iron for many years. When he was younger he spent 20 years working for Swift and Company in Portland.
He was a charter member of Club Green Meadows and a member of the Clark County Saddle Club, the National Rifle Association, and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union 4 of Vancouver. He also owned and trained racehorses at Portland Meadows.
He enjoyed traveling to Canada with his wife in their motorhome and fishing and canoeing while on their trips. He also enjoyed trapshooting, hunting and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth, at home; two sons, Ron Jr. of Battle Ground and Randal of Ridgefield; three daughters, Renee Amies and Robyn O'Reilly, both of Vancouver, and Rheta Mote of Brush Prairie; one brother, Richard of Vancouver; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The casket will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
