About Ronald Scholtz

Ronald "Ronnie" Scholtz (1947 - 2008)

Brief overview:

Ronnie (61), who worked for Voltex in George, in the Western Cape, was murdered at his place of work, on 20th September 2008.

"Winston Elbrecht (25) of Rosebud Street in Da Gamaskop is standing trial this week for the alleged killing of Mr Ronald Scholtz (62) in September 2008.

Scholtz died from head injuries and suffocation. At the time, he was the area manager for Voltex in George.
Evidence was heard that a spade, kettle, broom and a table were used in the attack on Scholtz who was apparently lured by Elbrecht to the office under the false pretense that a package had been delivered for him.

According to the defendant’s statement, he had been employed at Voltex and had been angered by the fact that he had been suspended from his job for two weeks. On the day of the murder he claims to have called Scholtz twice to discuss the matter and they had met for that reason. Elbrecht alleges that Scholtz became angry and grabbed his chest whereupon he defended himself, and that he never intended to kill the deceased.

Finger and palm prints were however found on the broomstick, a leg of the table and industrial sticky tape. Elbrecht admitted that he had been under the influence of alcohol and tik when the incident took place, but denied hitting Scholtz with a spade or that he had tied tape around the deceased’s head or face. Tape was also used to tie the victim’s hand over his face and his blood was found on one of Elbrecht’s shoes.

Three tins with about R10 000 worth of cash, which the staff kept under the front desk, and 18 rolls of electrical cable went missing on the day of the crime.

Elbrecht is also to stand trial on two rape charges from 2007 and 2008 laid by two 15-year-old girls. One is a family member. Elbrecht has denied being aware of their age and testified it was consensual sex." *https://archive.is/U7g6n
