After their divorce in 1966, she married her long time friend and physician, David Winkler and in 1969 they moved to Santa Barbara. In 2001, after David’s death, Polly moved to Ukiah. She was also a lifelong participant in the Democratic Party. In Santa Barbara, she held administrative jobs for many years in the Art Association and volunteered as a museum docent. In Ukiah she was an avid participant in the senior aerobics class at Redwood Health Club and wrote biographies of new residents for the Beacon newsletter at Brookside Retirement Residence. She volunteered as secretary of the AAUW, participated in the California Retired Teachers Association, and supported local community arts and theatre projects.
A public memorial will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday May 19 at Mountain View, 1343 S. Dora, in Ukiah. Polly’s family prefers that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Ukiah, P.O. Box 67, Ukiah 95482.
