Rosella Pressley's father abandoned his family and went back home to Tennessee. Rosella's mother remarried, and Rosella was raped and bore her first child by him.

The rest of her children were out of wedlock with a married man whom she had a love affair with for many years. Because of the "illegitimacy" of her children, she gave them her last name of Pressley or Presley.

• + Rosella Elizabeth Presley b. Feb. 1862, Fulton County, Miss. d. July 30, 1924, Pineville, Itawamba County, Mississippi. Rosella Elizabeth Presley never married, according to records, and some family members speculate for different reasons. However, Rosella lived alone and was a sharecropper in Mississippi, raising her children, most of whom could not read or write.

The 1900 US Federal Census for Itawamba, Mississippi states that Rosella's middle Initial was M. She is listed with several of her children. However other sources list it as Elizabeth.

according to notes on findagrave.com and other biographies of the Presley family, Rosella was never married. She had ten children by a few different men.
She gave all of them the last name “Presley”.
Jessie Dunning McClowell’s father was John Henry Wallace. HE IS ADDED HERE AS ROSELLAS HUSBAND FOR LINEAGE PURPOSES, but he was NOT actually married to Rosella.
