About Rostyslava Browar
Rostyslawa Browar, age 89, of Bloomington, IN, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at Alterra Sterling House in Bloomington, IN. She is survived by daughter, Natalia Schau; grandchildren, Lisa Benko, nee Browar, Carissa, William and Allison Browar, Adam and Kristina Schau; great-grandchildren, Chris Waymire and Kaitlyn Benko; brother, Oleh Buczackyj; sisters, Olena Buczacka and Irena Boyko; cousin, Lida Kolodchin; preceded in death by husband, Wolodymyr Browar; sons, Alex and Borys Browar; daughter, Christina Browar; and parents, Wolodymyr and Filomena Browar. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at St. Josaphat's Ukranian Catholic Church, 8624 White Oak Ave., in Munster at 10 a.m. with 1 hour viewing prior to Service at 9 a.m. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St., Merrillville (2 blks. South of cemetery). After leaving Ukraine, Slawa was the head of The Ukranian National Women's League in Austria before coming to the U.S. and teaching piano and organ for many years. She studied composition at The Chicago Conservatory College, self-published a series of piano instruction books, "Our Song," using traditional Ukranian folk songs and her own compositions. She also produced award winning acrylic paintings in her later years. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to The Patriarchal Cathedral in Kiev or Paget's Foundation.
