About Rudolph Habermann, Jr

Rudy died Wednesday May 3rd, 2023 at his residence in Ormond Beach FL.

He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on November 14, 1927. He lived there through high school graduation in 1944. Then he went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, earning a BS in Engineering in 1947 and a MS Eng. in 1948. He immediately joined General Electric where he spent most of his professional career with assignments in Pittsfield MA, Schenectady NY, Syracuse NY, Bethesda MD, Daytona Beach FL, Bridgeport CT, Washington DC, and King of Prussia PA.

In Daytona Beach in 1963-1969 he was Manager of Systems Engineering for work supporting the Apollo to the Moon program. He earned an M. Eng. degree in 1966 from University of Florida as part of incomplete studies toward a Doctorate.

His work also included teaching other engineers to use computers in doing their technical work, developing software for economic operation of power systems, managing analysis of test data from Atlas missile flights, introducing computer assistance to the intelligence community, advising the government of the role of electricity in the '70s energy crisis, developing specification for a new line of computers, and supporting the government in classified programs.

Other positions were in 1971 with RCA at Palm Beach Gardens FL as Manager of Planning for Medium Computer Systems and 1971-1974 with American Optical in Southbridge MA as Director of Information Systems for the Optical Products Div.

He was a registered Professional Engineer in New York, Maryland, and Florida. He had career long membership in professional organizations: Association for Computing Machinery and Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

On retirement in 1989 he returned to Ormond Beach FL where he became active in local organizations. He was elected President of the Chapter 1057 of the AARP. He served two terms as Director of the 89 Oceanfront condo association. He served a term as President of the local chapter of the GE-Elfun Society. He served as a Director of the Daytona Beach Symphony Society and served two terms a Treasurer. He was a long time member of the Halifax Genealogical Society serving several years as Treasurer.

Rudy will be greatly missed as an active member and Elder at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully for over three decades.

A memorial service will be held on Sat. May 20th, 2023 10:30 AM at Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Rd, Ormond Beach FL 3176, with a reception for friends to follow.
