Cem, It is not known whether Mr. Rude took up land in Royalton or not, but his widow was at first given a right when the charter was granted in 1781, She probably had a home with her daughter, Mrs. Elias Stevens, after the death of her husband. Mr. Rude was the moderator at the first meeting that is on record relating to the town of Royalton. In the 10th Co., 8th Conn. Cont. Regt., 1775, a Rufus Rude was private. The Rufus Rude named in Capt. Joseph Parkhurst's Co. in 1780, was probably his son, Rufus.
