PIEDMONT, W.Va. -- Russell Paul Hoopengarner, 91, of Piedmont, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Dec. 8, 1909 in Elk Garden, he was the son of the late Samuel and Florence (Wallace) Hoopengarner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucrecia (Hartman) Hoopengarner. Mr. Hoopengarner retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company in 1973 as an engineer. Surviving are four sons, Paul Hoopengarner and wife Kathy, Keymont, Harold Hoopengarner and wife Shirley, McCoole, Md., David Hoopengarner and wife Hanna, New Burn, N.C., and Richard Hoopengarner, Keyser; two daughters, Laurella Kimble, Cumberland and Betty Judy and husband Junior, Burlington; one sister, Frances Watts, Elk Garden; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Nethkin Hill Methodist Church, Elk Garden, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald E. Marple and the Rev. Daniel Sears officiating. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to service.
