Russell Franklin "Frank" Kuykendall, son of Peter Thornton Kuykendall and Mildred "Milley" J. Patterson Kuykendall, born about 1870 in Calhoun Co., MS, died July 3, 1917 in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas. Russell was married at the age of 17 to a Springcreek, Texas girl, Alice Crabtree (born 17 Feb 1874 in Wise Co., TX - died 3 Dec 1953 in Amarillo, Potter Co., TX) and fathered three sons:
1. William Rex Kuykendall born 11 November 1892 and died April 1984 in Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas. 2. Alfred Lee Kuykendall born 11 February 1895 and died 19 December 1952 at Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas. 3. Gus Melvin Kuykendall born 6 December 1896 and died June 1982 at Amarillo, Potter Co., Texas.
When his father, Peter Thornton Kuykendall, died, and Frank received his inheritance, he deserted his family. He first went to Oklahoma, later New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming, working as a sheep sheerer and photographer until he returned, at age 42, to live with his aging mother on the farm in Young County, TX. Here he met and married the 18 year old Reba Sharpe. They had one child, a daughter, Doris. While Doris was still a young child, her father became mentally ill and spent four years in the State Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where he died at the age of 48. He is buried, next to his parents, in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Throckmorton Co., Texas. Note: Headstone is a flat fieldstone next to parents - no inscription
