About Ruth Newcomb
Not the daughter of Edmund Marshall
See George Freeman Sanborn Jr. "RUTH MARSHALL, FIRST WIFE OF JOHN2 NEWCOMB," in The American Genealogist 61:111 https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/american-genealogist-th...
John Marshall "The Scott" of Braintree
John ‘the Scot’ Marshall, of Braintree
and
Ruth (Marshall) Newcomb
Are sister and brother.
John2 Newcomb (Francis1) married Ruth Marshall sister of John1 Marshall of Boston and Braintree. She was also "aunt" to John2 Marshall (John1) of Braintree.
From a recent article in The American Genealogist 61:111:
https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/american-genealogist-th...
"That leaves us with the probability that Ruth (___) Newcom [wife of John2 Newcomb] was a sister or sister-in-law of John1 Marshall. Since no brother of John1 Marshall is known whose widow could have been John2 Mashall's "aunt nucum" and since practically all other possibilities have been ruled out or shown to be highly improbable, we conclude that this early Scottish immigrant to Boston had a hitherto unknown sister Ruth, the first wife of John2 Newcomb of Braintree."
Note it was John Marshall's son John who called Ruth (Marshall) Newcomb his aunt in his diary per the article above.
