About Ruth

Born in israel on Moshav Habonim - left with parents and younger brother Ariel and sister Ayela to Warmbad South Africa in 1959 We moved to Pretoria for a few years and then to Johannesburg .

Finished all my schooling in South Africa and started to work there. I travelled back and forth to Israel a few times, married an Israeli Erez Cohen and had 3 daughters with him. Nesya born in the UCLA hospital, Los Angeles, USA 1981, Levavy born in Dallas Texas 1982 and who passed away as a tiny baby 3 months old in 1983 and is buried in Dallas. Then Elida born in Warmbad South Africa in 1988 and who also tragically passed away in 2017 in California USA.

Since our marriage we lived in various countries, from Israel to South Africa, to Costa Rica. to the USA.

When our baby Levavy died we went back to South Africa and were there until 1995 when we fled after being attacked by criminal gang called Jota, Johannesburg Tenants Association run by Moses Moshoeshoe. We were living in Berea Johannesburg. Our story made the news for some months from the lOctober 1994 until Feb March 1995. The Cohen's of Berea story was featured in the TV news on all the TV channels including the Black channels. The only radio chat show radio 702, and all the newspapers. Erez was invited to attend some TV chat shows, and was interviewed by the most popular show at the time (can not remember the name but it was equivalent to 60 minutes of the USA.

There was a court case involving my brother Ariel who was working with us renting out houses to Black tenants in a Jewish neighbourhood. Only Jews were open minded enough to let the Blacks in to their areas and it was obvious it would happen anyway.

This led to a situation called red lining. Blacks would move in and then stop paying the rent or the payments on the house they had bought, it became such a huge problem the banks took a red pen and lined the areas that they were not getting any money out of at all. We got caught up in that situation as Berea also became a area where Blacks refused to pay for their houses.

Jota sent their people to attack us and we had to flee to stay alive and came back to Israel but after a few years moved to the USA in 2001 a few days after the 911 attack. .

Erez sent me back to Israel to attend to some business and then I deceided to divorce him after 22 years of marriage and moved to Jerusalem and started to make a new life for myself in the Jewish religious world. Met Shmuel Ben David Ohion a Jew from Morocco at the Kotel the Wailing Wall in 2002 and we became a couple in 2007. We live n Mizcarit Moshe in central Jerusalem right next to the Shuik Mahana Yehuda, a thriving and very popular area of the city

All the little areas around us named after Moshe Montifore are all charming, quaint, from ancient history/ Areas that are regually visited by of tours from locals, including schoolchildren, soldiers, and many more who come here for the holidays and also tourists from all over the world.

We have the most beautiful garden in the area which everyone enjoys very very much and tells me so every single time I walk out to tend to the garden. Not a big garden of course, not here but a very amazing one that brings great energy and joy to all those here mostly the many little children .The Haradim come on Shabbat to show their children the garden as though it is the local entertainment centre. The garden is called Gan Eden Yerushalaim.

Israeli's being very inventive and clever make up games for those who tour the areas, looking for clues of ancient history, signs and one of the games includes counting the dolls, toys, animals, that are up in the garden. The children literally stand outside my window counting toys.

I have accomplished many many things in my life, travelled a lot and met many many many people and heard weird and wonderful stories but none are as weird and wonderful and strange and complicated and outrageous as my own life..

Shmuel had his leg amputated last year in 2014 July due to diabetes so now I am his caretaker all the time.
