SSgt. Richard Glenn Sachariat, Sr.

Richard (Rick) Glenn Sachariat Sr., 75, of Wake Forest NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
Rick was born on January 21, 1945, in Holyoke Massachusetts, to Frank and Betty Sachariat.

When Rick was very young, his family moved to the family farm in Apple Creek Ohio, where he graduated from Waynedale high school. Rick then enlisted in the Marines from 1965-1969, where he served our country in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. He served as a Staff Sergeant where he worked in field artillery, qualifying as a sharpshooter.

In his earlier years, Rick enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Ricky, and ensured his family had a respect for guns and their safety. He was a devoted father and husband who always put his family first.

In March 2000, after 30 years of employment, Rick retired from General Electric in Wilmington NC, where he worked as an Information Systems Engineer.

Rick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valerie, his daughters Shelly (Vinnie) and Ashley (Matt), his grandsons Stratton and Reid, his brother Fred, his sister Sue and many nieces and nephews. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Betty, his sisters Betty and Sharon and his son Ricky.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 26th, 2:00 pm at Coble Ward Smith Funeral home at 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington NC. Visitation with the family will be held immediately after.
