Caniachkoo was Sachem (chief) of the Third Castle of the Mohawks, The Dutch referred to the fortified village as a "castle". The third village up the river is what they meant. Caniachkoo was a Mohawk . The Turtle Clan is referenced as the clan of his daughter which is presumed to reflect either or both parents. The daughter was married to Pieter in a Dutch church and therefore the records of this union verify this
