About Sal Campagnola
I have many memories of Uncle Sal, beginning as a young child when he first came home from serving in the 2nd World War. He was very nice, quiet, gentle and smiling. He took me to the circus and I loved it. My mom said that he needed time to get himself back and to find work. I remember him later on as highly intelligent, patient and able to learn the most intricate things, and I was especially impressed by his knowledge of the seas and ability to read complex material and maps.
My husband, Tam, loved him. He enjoyed his company very much and always invited him to our house. My dad, Andy, and he were best friends, and befittingly, are buried next to each other at St. Raymond's cemetary in the Bronx. In fact Andy introduced Sal to golf and we all played together on Sundays after big Italian dinners cooked by my mom. How we were able to slip under the fence and sneak into Split Rock Golf Course is beyond my imagination at this time. We ate so much and drank so much wine it's a real wonder we could walk, much the less, play golf. These are the good memories I choose to select and hope to pass on to the children. A handsome, gentle, kind and highly intelligent man who tried to do the best he could for all.
