About Sally Hays
SALLY HAYS OBITUARY Mrs. Sally Hays died on Friday, May 5, 1893, of lung fever, at the age of nearly 84 years. Sally Walton was born September 5, 1809, near Portland, Maine, and moved with her parents to Jefferson County, Indiana, in 1818. She was married to James Hays on January 18, 1829, and has been a widow for seventeen years. With her husband, she came to Appanoose County Iowa in 1852, and has resided ever since. She was the mother of eight children, three of whom are still living, T. H. Hays, Mrs. E. Ransom, Mrs. Thos. Brockus. She united with the Baptist church in her 18th year and has been a consistent member ever since. The deceased has passed the four score years of life, and departed after a life well spent to enter that future state where "deeds not words" are the measure of her reward. The Tribune joins with many friends in expressions of sympathy to the bereaved relatives. (Madison Indiana papers please copy.)
