Newspaper Obituary - Akron Times Democrat, 16 Sep 1896
"Akron Times Democrat", 16 September 1896:
HER MEMORY BLESSED
Mrs. Salome Bauer left 189 Descendants. She had 16 Children, 87 Grandchildren, 70 Great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The remains of Saloma Bauer, one of the pioneer woman of Norton Township, were laid away Sunday morning in the cemetery adjoining the Lutheran Church at Loyal Oak, beside the grave of her husband, Charles who died 20 years ago. Few women have been survived by the great number of descendants which has been the happy distinction of Mrs. Bauer, many of whom reside in Summit County and are classed among our best citizens, live to blessed memory.
This remarkable woman was born in 1808, and was 88 years, five months and ten days old at the time of her death, last Thursday. She was the last member of the Miller family of Summit County pioneers, her only surviving brother, the father of Mrs. J. F. Seiberling of Akron, having died last spring. In 1814 she settled with her husband Charles, near what is the Wolf Creek lock, south of Barberton. She had previously lived at Dry Land, Northumberland County, PA.
Sixteen children were born to them, ten girls and six boys, of whom ten now survive. The funeral services were conducted at the Loyal Oak Lutheran Church Sunday morning by Rev. Geo. Harter of Akron. Many relatives from Akron attended. Mrs. Bauer had been a member of the Lutheran Church since her girlhood.
