About Salomon Dormitzer
December 29, 2018: I am adding children and immigration based on inferences I have made from other documents.
- A Solomon Dormitzer lived in St. Louis, MO as reported in the 1870 Census.
- Solomon was 69 years old in 1870 (the Salomon of this record would have been 69 in 1870) and was born in Prague.
- Solomon lived with Charles Dormitzer and his wife Thekla in St. Louis. Charles was 33 and I suspect was his son.
- The Salomon of this record is from Prague. He is the brother of Isak Dormitzer and the uncle of Henry, Joseph and Magdalena Dormitzer.
- Joseph and Magdalena Dormitzer lived in St. Louis MO.
- Henry and Joseph Dormitzer left money in their estates for Thekla Dormitzer, the wife of Charles (and presumed son of Solomon).
Based on all of the above, I infer that Salomon and Solomon are likely the same person and he came to the US with his sons Charles (and Rudolph). Charles and Rudolph were born in Hamburg, so it is possible that Salomon left Prague, lived in Hamburg where he had at least two sons, then accompanied his sons to the US where he moved to St. Louis to be with his nephews. Incidentally, Charles and Rudolph were in the tobacco business, which was the business of Henry Dormitzer.
