About Salomon van Belle, Heer van Boezinge
Curator note: both maps in the media tab, the ville of Belle and the Ambacht Belle have as identifying features the coats os arms which confirm the use of the coat in the profile image. These arms were originally attributable to the chatelaines of Ypres. It might be a more consistent name to use van BELLE de BAILLEUL which would indicate a Dutch born from the original French family, Bailleul is located in France south of the Belgian border but close enough that a branch might have relocated to Ypres. Salomon is reportedly to have been a cloth merchant and owned merchant ships.
Individual members of this family bore distinctly different arms throughout the ages. For example, the arms of Lionel Belle reflect those currently being used, it is important to review the immediate family of Lionel to assess which branch may have adopted these arms. So one possibility is that the branch Belle did adopt its own coat of arms that would have been used by that branch separate from any Ballieul that may have been chatelaines of Ypres.
