Sam Stermer a Holocaust survivor, whose family's remarkable story is documented in his mother Esther's book "We Fight to Survive" and portrayed in the recent film "No Place on Earth". Peacefully at home on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Beloved and devoted husband of Bella Bardash for 64 years. Cherished father and father-in-law of Lila and Stephen Simco, Irwin and Marla Stermer. Adored Zaida of Benjamin Simco and Vanessa Champagne, Russell Simco and Sarah Benlolo, Katie Simco and Jonah Burke-Kleinman; Alexandra Stermer and Ghislain Shema Ndayisaba, Zachary Stermer and Candice Stark, and Devon Stermer. Dearest brother and brother- in-law of Saul and the late Czarna Stermer, Pearl and the late Nissel Stermer, co- survivors Sonia and Harold Hochman, Sima and David Blitzer, and predeceased by Henia and Fischel Dodek, Chana and Joseph Richter, Yetta and Avrum Katz, and brother- in-law of Sally and the late Joe Schulman. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Sam's wonderful caregivers Shirley, Christina, Sheila, Ethel, Grace, Luchi, Carmela, Theresa, Zaida and Wena, to Susan and Laura, and their colleagues at the CLSC, to Dr. Rubin Becker, Dr. Anne-Louise Lafontaine and her staff at the Montreal Neurological Institute, Dr. Martin Black and his staff at the Jewish General Hospital, his physiotherapist Daniel, his speech therapists Melissa and Lauren, and the staff of the I.C.U. at the Jewish General Hospital, all for their exceptional care and devotion. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon St. W., on Sunday, July 17 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at Shomrim Laboker Congregation Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva to be announced.
