Samuel D. Altman, Sr., 87, of R.D.8, Spiker avenue, Highland Heights, died on Wednesday at 9:45 p.m. at his residence. Mr. Altman had been in poor health for several years. He was born in Armstrong County, Pa., on October 28, 1867, the son of John and Rebecca Schrentongost Altman and spent most of his life in this county. A member of the Coaltown Free Methodist church, Mr. Altman was a retired driller. His children: Lester Altman of Cleveland, Ohio; Oscar Altman, Carl Altman, Edward Altman, Theodore Atlman, Clyde Altman, Samuel Altman, Jr., Mrs. Mildred Houk and Mrs. Margaret Stevenson, all of this city; a sister, Mrs. Midred Gackenton, Butler; a brother, Clarence Altman, Columbus; 49 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren, survive. Mr. Altman was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Houston Altman in 1942, a son, John and a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Withers. Saturday at 2 p.m. funeral services will be held in the Joseph B. Leyde Morturary, 1102 Highland avenue, with Rev. W. Dale Rhome officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Park cemetery. The family will receive friends in the mortuary this evening from 7 to 9 and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
